A delight to comment on this Star+ series !!!
Indication of my daughter, spoke very highly of the series that is in its second season. This is a funny series of murder mysteries that take place in a famous building. Although the Belnord building attracts fans’ attention, the name of the Arconia actually refers much more to the Ansonia building, the legendary luxury apartment tower that occupies an entire block on Broadway between 73rd and 74th Streets. comprises 17 floors and 400 unique units…my architect side coming out!
I already loved the aesthetics of the banner, there was something different that I wasn’t identifying! And I’m talking about lighting, something different there…
By the third episode I found out!! And it was in my face the whole time!! The lighting had theater DNA! It dawned on me when one of the three characters began to reminisce about his times as a Theater Producer (Martin Short).
The lighting is much stronger on the face, an obvious feature of the theater, due to the great distance between the characters and the people in the audience. A lot of light is needed for the expressions to be noticed, and on the other hand, the backlight of the stage, here in the back of the scene, are not as clear as in more traditional urban series.
As color is light, here the scenarios are also very well assembled, since we have less backlight in the scene, the perception of details would decrease, and these details of the private apartments are part of the composition of the character itself, because the architecture translates a lot what the person is or likes to be.
A great detail that has nothing to do with the lighting itself, but the 6th episode is virtually all without sound, as one of the secondary characters of the first season is mute, and everything revolves around this reality. Fabulous! For me a remarkable and unforgettable episode!
