The Atelier de Iluminação attended the official launch ceremony of the restoration project for the Bento Gonçalves Monument, held at the Noble Hall of Porto Alegre City Hall. The event marked the beginning of the studio’s involvement in the project, as it will be responsible for designing the lighting scheme that will accompany the restoration of one of the most significant historical and cultural landmarks in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
Unveiled in 1936 as part of the centennial celebrations of the Farroupilha Revolution, the monument honors General Bento Gonçalves, the leader of the Farroupilha movement. The sculpture was created by Antonio Caringi, one of Brazil’s most renowned sculptors, who also designed the iconic Monumento ao Laçador, one of Porto Alegre’s most recognized symbols.
The ceremony brought together public officials, specialists, and members of the multidisciplinary team involved in the project, including Mayor Sebastião Melo, widely recognized for his support of cultural heritage preservation initiatives. Also in attendance was Antonella Caringi, granddaughter of Antonio Caringi, who is dedicated to researching, preserving, and promoting the history and artistic legacy of her grandfather.
The restoration project is led by architect Verônica Do Benedetti, head of one of Rio Grande do Sul’s most established firms specializing in the preservation of historic heritage. For the Atelier de Iluminação, it is a privilege to be part of this multidisciplinary team and to contribute to the enhancement of a work that holds such significance for the memory and cultural identity of Rio Grande do Sul.
This project further strengthens the Atelier’s long-standing expertise in the illumination of historic monuments. The studio previously designed the lighting for the Monumento ao Laçador, also created by Antonio Caringi, as well as for numerous other important cultural landmarks in Porto Alegre and throughout Brazil.
The Atelier de Iluminação extends its gratitude to IPSul for its trust and the opportunity to contribute to this project, reaffirming its commitment to enhancing historic heritage through light and helping reveal the artistic, architectural, and cultural value these landmarks represent for society.
