Aterro do Flamengo Apartment

In 2021, one of our biggest challenges was the Lighting Project for the Aterro do Flamengo Apartment.

This unique and historic apartment is in the first skyscraper in the Flamengo neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro, a building that will turn 100 years old in 2023 and is being restored and is well preserved by the historical heritage of Rio de Janeiro.

Building of the French architect Joseph Gire, same architect of the Copacabana Palace.

The history of this building Designed by the cult French architect Joseph Gire and inaugurated in 1925, the Praia do Flamengo building was commissioned by businessman Octávio Guinle, who wanted a Parisian-style building with a Renaissance mansard roof.

Gire was the author of some of the most beautiful buildings in Brazil, such as the Copacabana Palace and Glória Hotels, the A Noite building, and the headquarters of the Rio de Janeiro Yacht Club, in addition to the Laranjeiras Palace. Much celebrated, he was also the author of two more nearby buildings, on Praia de Botafogo, Paraopeba and São João Marcos.

When the Copacabana Palace was built, the Guinle family moved there, and this apartment is now being revitalized.

We fully respect the historicity of this building and its absence of plaster! It seems simple, but not using plaster or any built-in lamp, it was something we decided at the time, to respect history!

The other important point, we illuminated with the concept of the time, in relation to the points, and inserted strong indirect and dimmable lighting, in a museological way, marking what was the intervention of the 21st century.
