The Porto Alegre Public Market is one of the city’s greatest landmarks. Opened in 1869, in the heart of the Historic Center, the building has withstood floods, fires, and renovations over the decades, remaining a true meeting point, a space of cultural diversity, and a gastronomic reference. Listed as historical heritage, it represents the living memory of Porto Alegre and the welcoming spirit of its people.
Being part of the history of this architectural icon was, for us, a source of great pride. We had the privilege of designing the Lighting Project for the Public Market, a work that sought to highlight its centenary architecture while also creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for merchants, visitors, and tourists. Light here was conceived not only as a functional element but also as an aesthetic resource, capable of enhancing the building’s lines, volumes, and grandeur.
This project received special recognition: it was featured on the cover of Lume Magazine, issue 124, a national reference in the field of lighting. This achievement reinforces the relevance of the work and the importance of contributing to the preservation and appreciation of spaces that are so representative of our city.
Illuminating the Public Market was more than a technical project. It was an act of respect for Porto Alegre’s history and a celebration of the culture that lives and thrives in every corridor of this unique place
