Following the successful lighting design for the façade of Porto Alegre City Council, Atelier de Iluminação is advancing the project with a new concept focused on the building’s atrium, one of the most iconic and symbolic spaces within the architectural work designed by Cláudio Luiz Araújo.
The challenge lies in enhancing a space defined by its architectural richness and multiple visual perspectives. The proposal seeks to preserve the building’s historical character while introducing a contemporary lighting language that connects the space to the needs and experiences of the 21st century.
More than simply illuminating the environment, the concept aims to reveal the depth, voids, and spatial relationships that shape the atrium, reinforcing its architectural identity and enriching the experience of those who use and visit the space. Light becomes a tool for interpreting the architecture, highlighting its complexity and creating new layers of perception.
Among the strategies under development is the integration of solutions inspired by natural daylight, promoting greater visual comfort and well-being. The goal is to transform the atrium into a more welcoming, dynamic, and contemporary environment while preserving the essence that makes it a landmark of Porto Alegre’s architectural heritage.
For Atelier de Iluminação, the project also represents a tribute to the legacy of Cláudio Luiz Araújo, whose work continues to inspire new ways of exploring the relationship between architecture, light, and human experience.
